KP Irland gegen den EU-Vertrag
In einer Pressemitteilung vom Freitag, 6. Juni begrüsst die Kommunistische Partei von Irland den Aufschwung der Opposition gegen den EU-Vertrag von Lissabon. Das irische hat als einziges aller Völker der EU-Mitgliedsstaaten das Recht behaupten können, sich in einer Volksabstimmung über den Vertrag zu äussern. Der Vertrag von Lissabon stellt entgegen der offiziellen Bezeichnung eine neue EU-Verfassung dar und pflastert eine supranationale, neoliberale und militaristische Einbahnstrasse für die Zukunft aller Mitglieder unter Beseitigung und Verstümmelung aller demokratischen, sozialen Errungenschaften und bei Verbot von alternativen Politiken.
Bürgerliche Medien jammern über die Schwierigkeiten des irischen Volkes, den EU-Vertrag “richtig” zu verstehen. Demgegenüber stellt die KP Irland fest, dass der Vorsprung des Nein-Lagers, das nach den Umfragen um 5% vorne liegt, im Inhalt des Vertrags von Lissabon liegt. Nicht nur in Irland, sondern in allen Ländern der Europäischen Union werden die von diesem EU-Vertrag ausgehenden grossen Gefahren für die Demokratie, Souveränität, die Arbeiterrechte bewusst. Die KP verweist gleichzeitig auf einen weiteren Grund für den Zuwachs an Gegnern aus dem Lager der Unentschiedenen. Durch Desinformation und Missbrauch der Medien, durch hohle Versprechungen und Drohungen haben es die Befürworter so weit gebracht, dass sich immer mehr Unentschlossenen nun zum gegnerischen Lager schlagen. Die Art und Weise der Propaganda bestärkt das Misstrauen gegen den Inhalt.

Press Statement (6th June 08) – The Communist Party of Ireland today welcomed the continued shift in public opinion towards a No vote in the forthcoming referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon. The latest opinion polls show a marked shift to the No side, which now has a lead of 5 percentage points over the Yes side.

This shift in public opinion has come about from the No side presenting a clear analysis of what the Treaty of Lisbon contains and the dangers it poses to democracy, sovereignty, and workers– rights, not just in Ireland but throughout the countries of the European Union.

It is also a reaction against the arguments presented by the Yes side and their descent into abuse and name-calling against No campaigners. Despite the gross imbalance in media presentation in favour of the Yes side, people have been able to see this treaty for what it is.

The Government and the establishment parties and their front organisations have tried everything, including parading retired trade union leaders in front of the media while attacking and undermining current trade union leaders who have taken a courageous stand in relation to this struggle for the future direction of the European Union. They have promised a veto to farmers on WTO talks that they do not possess and cannot deliver.

This is not the time for complacency, but instead we need to redouble our efforts, to press forward and continue to engage with the people.

The Communist Party also calls on the No campaigners to continue to ignore the attempts by the Government and establishment parties and their mass media to demonise and divide the No campaign and to understand the coming attacks in the final days of this struggle as part of their continuing attempts to divide and rule. Â
